Project Vision

The UD Cookware project aims to make cooking safer and easier for all people, especially people living with conditions that would otherwise make cooking more difficult.

Specifically, we want to:

  • Make stove top-cookware easier to handle and operate for all users
  • Reduce risk of burn injuries, including scalds and steam burns
  • Address any other challenges that are revealed by field studies

Methods

(We’re currently on Step 2- Investigate)

  1. Research the issues involved, and understand how product and behavioral interventions can make cooking safer
  2. Investigate through interactions with users through field observation, interviews, and online surveys
  3. Ideate a wide range of possible solutions that address user needs, then narrow down to the concepts with the most potential for success
  4. Prototype, test and refine real working prototypes
  5. Finalize design, create a final working prototype, and conduct testing to validate the design.
  6. Publish results so that future researchers and designers can build on UD Cookware Project’s work.
